You know it's a crazy league when the Oakland...

You know it's a crazy league when the Oakland Raiders throw five touchdown passes the first 12 weeks of the season, then throw 3 in the fourth quarter to beat the defending Super Bowl champ Pittsburgh Steelers.  It just goes to show how tough it is to repeat in the NFL and how tenuous it is at the top.  The Steelers have now dropped four straight and at 6-6 are in peril of missing the playoffs.  That would be the second time in the last few years they have won the Super Bowl then followed that up with a non playoff year.

Tony Romo just doesn't get it.  Two years ago, there was quite the uproar as he took his then girlfriend, Jessica Simpson, to Mexico during wild card week.  The Cowboys had earned the first round bye, and instead of watching film, working out with the offence, or just looking like he gave a damn, Tony went to Mexico to folic on the beach with his ditzy beauty.  The Cowboys went on to lose the divisional playoff game (hey, it was played in January after all) and with all the flack he took, you would think he would have learned.  Flash foward to this past week.  The Boys play their traditional Turkey Day game and have a couple of days off.   Instead of working out with an offence who had only recently scored 14 points in two games, he goes off to Las Vegas to blow off a little steam.  They guy is at least a Brady short of a bunch.  Do you think you would see Peyton Manning in Vegas during the regular season?  Drew Brees?  Tom Brady?  That is why Romo's name will never be mentioned in the same breath as those guys.  Well, that and the fact he has about a quarter of their talent.  This is a guy who just doesn't understand what it takes to be an NFL quarterback and has a coach in Wade Phillips who also doesn't understand what it takes. I assume that Romo had to clear that little trip with someone at the Cowboys.  The conversation could have gone like this.  "Hey coach, we have a couple days off.  I think I will go to Vegas and bang around with some hookers and gambling degenerates for awhile.  That ok?"  "Umm, sure Tony.  Good idea.  You have the offence humming real well right now.  Those two last minute touchdowns you scored as our only points two consecutive weeks shows you deserve a little time off.  Why don't you go and spend 48 straight hours gambling, drinking and whoring, get you ready for December/January.  You stink during those months so how could it hurt?"  Unreal.

Has there been a more understated and irrelevant comeback in recent memory than the Michael Vick comeback.  He has really been a non factor for the Eagles.  Yes, he got a touchdown run and pass, his first of the season for both, in his return to Atlanta.  But it was in a game that the Eagles already had well in hand.  There was really no hype leading up to the game and was close to a non story.  Vick's skills, whatever skills he had anyway, have been almost completely diminished by his time in prision.  He was never a very good quarterback to begin with, and now he is even less then that.  I would imagine this will be the last we see of him in the NFL.  What's next?  I hear the Argonauts are looking for a QB.  Would it shock anybody to see him in Double Blue next season?

I am so pissed at myself for getting talked into picking Houston on the show yesterday.  All week I said to people, yes they should win, but would you be shocked if they didn't?  They are the softest team in the league.  I explained the concept of "A Plaxico" in betting a few weeks ago.  A self inflicted gambling wound.  I knew when I did it, it was a Plaxico waiting to happen.  I did it anyway....I know better.  I am too easily convinced.  There must be a Plaxico wagering support group somewhere.

Raheem Morris elevated himself to the realm of poor coaches yesterday.  Tampa Bay is well on it's way to covering yesterday vs Carolina.  The Bucs are down 7 with over 10 minutes to play.  They have a 4th and 2 from just outside the 10.  A field goal put them within 4 with lots of time left.  Not sure why he felt he had to go for it in that situation.  Josh Freemon had already thrown a red zone interception.  He threw another, then another.  Three red zone interceptions and they still only lost by 10.  That's a tough one to swallow.

The dog's in Cincinnati games are now 12-0.  People laughed at me again when I took the Lions yesterday +13.  How could you not?  The Bengals have become a grind it out, tough defensive team with a good running game.  They don't run up scores.  They are a fantastic dog and a horrible favourite.  The linesmakers continue to make them double digits over bad teams and they are just not good enough to cover these big spreads.  They look to run first.  Until the oddmakers adjust, we will just keep going with the dogs in Bengal games.

This just doesn't look like the same Patriots team.  The cover, never mind the game never looked in doubt.  Then a couple New England turnovers, including a Brady red zone interception and once again the Patriot defence with no ability to stop anybody when it matters and we get further evidence of why Bellichek went 4th and 2 from his own 29 vs the Colts.  He has no confidence in his defence and now his offence is letting him down as well.  It is beginning to look like the Colts have a cake walk into the Super Bowl.  And, before you shout Chargers, I will wait to see how Turner/Rivers perform on the road in an AFC Championship game before I go in that direction.

The Saints just seem like a team of destiny this year.  Everything is going there way.  They throw an interception on a 3rd and 24 play, the guy fumbles and it gets run in for a touchdown.  The Skins have a chip shot to go up 10, they miss and New Orleans goes down and ties it.  They get a questionable fumble call in overtime and they win.  Washington deserved a better fate but fate seems to be with New Orleans this year.

Another big day for the Dogs as they went 10-5.  A couple of those were lines that jumped back and forth along pick'em.  The Niners and Cowboys both closed -1 and lost outright.  Under bettors collected the money this weekend as well as there were 10 unders to 5 overs.
