THE TEAM 990 SHOW HOST BLOGS
Ok, it might be closer to Monday afternoon.
Ok, it might be closer to Monday afternoon. That is what happens when you spend a weekend at the Grey Cup. I say this every year, but it really needs reiterating for those of you that have never been. From a fan standpoint, there is not a better championship then the Grey Cup and it's weekend festivities. I have been to all kinds of championships and there is not a more fan friendly, and most importantly, fan accessible championship then Grey Cup weekend. It is all about the fans and the ability for fans to take part in all aspects of the parties. And, kudos to the Saskatchewan fans. They make the party. Whether they are in the game or not, they are loud, rambunctious, colourful and most importantly, friendly and respectful. They are there in droves only to have a good time. Every single one of them are dressed and painted from head to toe in green and they are just there to have fun. They are a great group of people and I have all the respect in the world for them. I couldn't imagine what a Grey Cup would be without them. I feel for their pain this morning...almost as much as I feel for the hangover I will have for the next week.
Congratulations to the fans of Montreal. Once again the Grey Cup proved to be North America's greatest championship game. You may have won only due to the Roughriders inability to count to 13 but you were the best team all season by a landslide and therefore deserve to be the Champion.
What a crazy finish. It is inexcusable to think you could lose a game because of too many men on the field, but the Roughriders did. I am sure that is being dissected to death in Saskatchewan this morning. It was a crazy ending to a great second half and a very good football game. Congratulations to everybody in Calgary and the CFL for once again putting on a great party.
Kudos to Randall the Handle. As most of you probably know, he sets the number for CFL games. The total he set yesterday was 55. Final score, 28-27. Now that's a good number.
I obviously did not watch any NFL yesterday so don't have much to say about it. I do know that collectively on the show we had a horrible day. This is going to be a short blog as I am going to go back to sleep for most of the week once I finish this.
What I do know is that once again the Houston Texans proved to be softer than butter in the midday sun. When they were up 20-0 on Indianapolis, I messaged The Handle and suggested it would be real interesting to see how Houston manages to implode. After looking like the 72 Dolphins for most of the first quarter it once again all came undone. I continue to be amazed at the lack of toughness of this team. I can only put the blame on coach Gary Kubiak. It has to be the end of the road for him. I don't know what they are waiting for.
Last week I coined the phrase "A Plaxico". A self inflicted gambling wound. I played on and against my two nemesis teams yesterday. Picking Houston and against San Diego. Two Plaxico's in one day. In my defense, I was in a self inflicted fog so I am giving myself a mulligan. Unfortunately my bookmaker will probably not do the same.
Favourites were 9-6 including Thursdays games this week. Unders 9, overs 6.
I don't know what Dave Malinsky and Rob Longley had yesterday, but here is the bloody aftermath of myself, Jorey and Randall. Once again in my defence, I was sleeping when I made my picks on air.
