THE TEAM 990 SHOW HOST BLOGS
It's In The Game
As hockey playoffs near, the NCAA tournament plays out and NFL football buys up free agents with ungodly amount of up front money, my mind wanders over to another baseball season without a team in my home town.
I'm not sure what's eating at me exactly.
I feel I have gone past the pain and the what ifs.
I think it might be about the play by play itself.
For me, there simply isn't a better job in the world than being a play by play announcer for a major league baseball team.
I did however find out long ago that though I loved baseball to my core, it was the rush of the call that truly got the juices flowing.
That I enjoyed calling the pee wee hockey tournament in Quebec City and the ABA basketball as much as let's say, baseball, was truly enlightening.
It pains me how limited our market is.
Anywhere else in North America, a city of our size would require at least a dozen play by play announcers.
NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB.
College teams in every sport and of course there are several colleges per city.
Not to mention the multiple breakdown of tv and radio.
If English is your language, we've pretty much got 2 jobs here and one guy's got 'em both.
I'm not bitter, just hungry.
The Montreal Juniors, A Can-Am Baseball team, College football, University Hockey ...Soccer ?

Elliot, it's too bad that one guy has 'em both, especially considering he's not that good.

Hang in there Elliot..I agree the guy that does both Moffat is horrible. I listen to CKAC in the car cause the guy on CJAD wakews up after the goal is scored or when Murray Wilson corrects his continual mistakes
