THE TEAM 990 SHOW HOST BLOGS

Inside Hockey Radio Show 10/11

Are you ready to GET INSIDE HOCKEY? Well then tune in this Saturday for the Inside Hockey Radio Show, 2-4 PM on “NHL Home Ice” XM 204 and Sirius 208, The Team 990 in Montreal, and 1120 AM WBNW in Boston. You can also listen online at www.team990.com or www.moneymattersradio.net. Join host James Murphy and his new co-host Todd Carroll as they take you inside the NHL, AHL, NCAA, CHL, and all things hockey!

Before we tell you about this week’s lineup, we’d like to congratulate Todd and his new wife Amy on their marriage! Best of luck and health to the Carrolls as they embark on their life together!

Well just as the Carrolls are beginning a new life together, the NHL started a new season last week, when they held regular season games in Stockholm and Prague. While the action on the ice was great, the main storyline overseas and here in North America was whether this and last year’s European games are just another step to the NHL eventually forming a marriage with the European hockey scene and expanding the league there? Of course, there are many obstacles, the economy and travel to name a couple, before this can ever have a chance of becoming reality, but some truly believe the potential is there and eventually there will be an NHL Europe.

One of those people is Kerry Goulet of www.29sports.com. Kerry himself played professional hockey in Europe and has been doing numerous video assignments for the KHL and the Champions League. Kerry was in Europe recently and took in some of the games. We’ll get his take on why he believes European expansion will happen within the next decade and maybe even sooner.

As we do every week, we’ll take you up to the “Press Box” and chat with James Mirtle. James covers hockey for the Globe and Mail, AOL Fanhouse and has a great blog at mirtle.blogspot.com. We’ll get James’ predictions for the upcoming season, including some interesting sleeper teams.

Bob Snow of NHL.com will then join us as we continue to preview and break down the 2008-09 season that kicks off this weekend. We’ll look at the Boston College Eagles and why Bob thinks the defending NCAA Champions will become the first team to play in four straight NCAA title games and why they may very well repeat as champions. We’ll also look around the rest of the Hockey East and discuss why the CHA and NCAA hockey would be better off if the dwindling conference just folded and had their teams swallowed up by the remaining conferences.

Former NHLer and Pittsburgh Penguins pro scout Kevin Stevens will be on to discuss the Penguins' chances of returning to the Stanley Cup Finals this season. Who will man the power play with Sergei Gonchar and Ryan Whitney on injured reserve to start the season? Is Sidney Crosby ready to take the Hart Trophy back from Alexander Ovechkin? Are their future stars on the way in the Penguins’ system? Stevens will give the answers to those questions and many more!

Buffalo Sabres forward Jason Pominville joins us to discuss why he decided to re-sign with the Sabres over the summer and why the future is bright in Buffalo. Pominville will also tell us how defense will be a main focus for the Sabres this season and how they plan to improve defensively utilizing their speed. The Repentigny, Quebec native also reflects on his team’s experience playing the Canadiens in the “Hockeyville” game in Roberval, Quebec.

Finally, as we do every week, we will go “Toe-to-Toe” with Todd Carroll, tackling the latest hot-button issues around the hockey world. This week, Todd’s all riled up about the preseason and regular season crossing over as they did with the Penguins-Senators and Rangers-Lightning games in Europe last week. We also ask Todd who is more valuable to his team, Martin Brodeur or Alexander Ovechkin?

So if you want to GET INSIDE HOCKEY, then tune in this and every Saturday to the Inside Hockey Radio Show, 2-4 PM on “NHL Home Ice” (XM 204), The Team 990 in Montreal, and 1120 AM WBNW in Boston. You can also listen online at www.team990.com or www.moneymattersradio.net.
