Habs-Flyers Quick Thoughts

1. I may be ridiculed for this by my peers, by TEAM 990 listeners and my own family, but I think Jaroslav Halak should in Game 4 of the Flyers series. Why? Because he never seems to be rattled, he has an inferiority complex backing up Carey Price and he's playing his ass off to stay in the NHL and find employment as a number one.

If you go back to his play last season down the stretch with a sub par team in front of him, Halak very nearly got Montreal into the playoffs. This season, after waiting all year for his opportunity, he played fantastic in his four starts, including notching a shutout.

I know you don't give up on Carey Price after a couple of bad starts, but clearly the Flyers have him rattled and he is not seeing the traffic shots right now. There's no margin for error right now. The Canadiens can ill afford another poor or even average performance in goal. Give Halak a chance and let Price watch a game. Let him escape the pressure and the limelight for a game. Based on what he did in the third period of Game 3, I'm betting Halak has a great game in him.

2. Mike Knuble is back. I repeat, Mike Knuble is back. This is not good. Philadelphia was already outscoring, outhustling and outhitting Montreal. Now they add a 30-goal scorer? Not good. What's next, the return of Simon Gagne? Knuble is built for the postseason and the Canadiens will have to keep an eye on him. He's the Glen Murray of the team - except we expect him to actually score.

3. The lineup changes for Game 3 were interesting. I thought Maxime Lapierre played better as a winger. He was more physical, he didn't back down from post whistle skirmishes and he competed harder. But I am still not impressed with Guillaume Latendresse. He took some ill advised long shots and he didn't make a physical difference. I would LOVE to see Gregory Stewart in the lineup. What could it hurt? He is quick, he is physical and he is willing to pay the price. I say give him a shot on the fourth line.

4. Game 3 was another example of the Canadiens having more than enough chances and not burying them. What is the deal with the crooked shooting? Even Alex Kovalev missed a one-timer into an empty net. HIT THE NET, PEOPLE.

5. I know this isn't a hockey point, but I just saw the latest installment of Harold and Kumar, and it does not disappoint. Contrary to the square who reviewed it for The Gazette, it is just as good as the first one. They are the modern day Cheech and Chong and the humour is very much needed in our over-political society. Do yourself a favour and check it out.

Note: Game Points begins early this week, at 7pm... and will be on during the Habs game, so mute the game and tune in! We'll also be back on immediately following the postgame show. gamepoints@team990.com
