A few random Monday morning thoughts
A few random Monday morning thoughts on another Sunday in the NFL.
Attention Dallas Cowboys fans. Tony Romo is not your quarterback of the future. We all know he is horrible when it matters in December and January, now you can throw September into that as well. The guy throws as many bad passes as Jake Delhomme on a good day. Giants are not even in that game last night if Romo doesn't keep tossing it to them. Giants have some Red Zone problems. They can't get it in the endzone. They still have receiver problems but it looks like they may be coming around with Manningham and Smith looking more comfortable by the week. I think the Giants keep getting better and the Cowboys getting worse. The Giants are the best team in the NFC East by a longshot.
Here are some numbers that will make you blink on a Monday morning. Delhomme 308, Kolb 391, Cassell 241, Garrard 282, Leftwich 296. Those are some bad quarterbacks putting up some big numbers, all in losses. The only one I will say we don't know the upside yet is Kolb. He is a first rounder that may have some future.
During our preseason predictions we said you can't trust the Seahawks due to the tendancy to get injured. The key components being Matt Hassleback and Walter Jones. Well, two weeks in and Jones and Hassleback are both hurt.
Washington moved up and down the field yesterday on the Rams yet couldn't score touchdowns. They completely dominated but if you were laying the 9.5 points you didn't get the cover. That is why you don't lay big spreads in the NFL and especially with a Jason Campbell as your quarterback. On another Redskin note, Jim Zorn has moved into the Norv Turner realm of being an idiot coach. Who goes for it on 4th and 2 from the 10 with two mintues left and a 2 point lead? You kick the field goal to go up more than 3 every single time. Lucky for them they were playing the Rams who truly are dreadful.
I didn't watch a snap of the Raiders/Chiefs game but I can only imagine how terrible that was. Once again in the NFL we have some really bad football teams and it seems most of them inhabit the AFC West.
Speaking of the AFC West, you want to keep spending your money on the early season San Diego Chargers be my guest. Once again after two weeks they prove they are the most unprepared team in football. I can understand delay of game penalties on the road when the fans are going nuts but at home? How many delay of games did the Chargers get? 4, 5, 10, 100? I don't know, it seemed like alot. Maybe it's just me but I get more joy from seeing the Chargers lose than any other team in football. Oh, and nice call on 4th and 2 with the game on the line. A draw into the teeth of the Ravens defence. Has Turner never watched a Ravens game?
Where were those Houston and Cincinnatti teams last week when I needed them in my suicide pools? We all said Houston has a shot in the AFC South and I think that will play out. Titans are now 0-2 and the Colts did not look that special last week. The Texans still have lots of work to do on defence though to play football in January.
The Jet's look like they are for real. An absolutely outstanding defence and a rookie quarterback that looks like a seasoned veteran out there. Rex Ryan looks like the next great coach in the NFL. Nobody saw these guys coming but a convincing win on the road and a statement win shutting down the Patriots and all of a sudden they are a serious contender in the AFC.
Another Sunday another Lions collapse when you thought they might get a cover. A 10-3 halftime lead taking 10 points...another non cover. Some things never change.
Dogs were 8 and 7 on Sunday. Overs were 8 and 7. For those keeping score Dogs and Favourites, Overs and Unders are pretty much 50% after two weeks. It gets pretty monotonous, doesn't it?
